The Dallmeyer Super Six 76mm f/1.9, commonly known as DSS. The same lens also exists with a 3 inch f/1.9 marking. It features a 4-group, 6-element double Gauss design and is coated with Dallmeyer’s signature blue/purple Dallcoat. The front of the barrel bears the DC mark. It was likely originally designed as a cine lens.
The image circle appears to have ample coverage, and even at maximum aperture, the corners do not degrade significantly. Its rendering, characterized by a balance of moderate sharpness and beautiful flare, creates an enchanting visual world. With a focal length of 76mm, it offers minimal distortion and allows for a pleasing composition of the subject.
The exquisite, refined rendering is unmistakably Dallmeyer—truly a rare gem.
A piece we originally sold at our store about eight years ago. Carefully cherished by its owner, it has now made its way back to us.
Due to years of use and aging, the original lens head shows minor scratches and some fading of the anodized finish. There are a few small dings on the front edge, but no signs of warping, and a 43mm filter can still be securely screwed in.
In January 2025, the lens underwent a full overhaul along with a rangefinder coupling modification. A custom aluminum intermediate ring was crafted to mount the lens onto a universal rangefinder-coupled helicoid. The rangefinder coupling tends to front-focus slightly within the 5m to 30m range (adjustments can be made), so it is advisable to also use live view for shooting.
The front element has some minor cleaning marks, and both the front and rear groups show slight edge separation, but these do not affect image quality.
Test shots have yielded excellent results. We hope you will take a look at our sample images.
