※About rarity

Summilux-M 35mm f1.4 (2nd version). The final iteration of the spherical lens model. Leitz product code: 11870. Serial number in the 3,370,000 range, manufactured in 1985 in Canada. Features a 5-group, 7-element optical design. The minimum focusing distance is 1 meter. Filters are used by inserting Series 7 filters into the 12504 hood.

The 2nd version of the Summilux 35mm was produced without major redesigns from 1961 to 1995, making it a remarkably long-lived lens with enduring popularity even today. Its rendering characteristics are well-known, but the true allure lies in the dramatic changes between shooting wide open and stopped down. This versatility gives the lens an exceptional depth of expression.

Compact and lightweight, with the brightness of f1.4, distinctive imaging capabilities, and an excellent design, this lens boasts an unparalleled level of refinement and appeal.

There is minimal wear from use, with only very slight black paint loss and a small scratch on the chrome-plated base. Overall, it shows little sign of use and has a very clean appearance. It pairs beautifully with a brand-new Leica body.

Fully overhauled in January 2025, including focus adjustment. The aperture and helicoid operate with the smoothness you’d expect, and the rangefinder coupling is spot-on even at maximum aperture.

The glass shows extremely light coating wear, visible only under strong LED light, with no significant impact on image quality. There are no notable cleaning marks or haze, leaving the glass beautifully clear and pristine. This is a lens that allows you to fully enjoy its original rendering capabilities.

Comes with the matching original box (still wrapped in its original protective film), a near-mint 12504 hood, a Series 7 UVa filter, original front and rear caps, and a Barnack Club membership card. A great addition for both use and collection.
