The Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 (2nd version) is the final iteration of the spherical Summilux 35mm. Leitz's product code for this model is 11870. This particular lens has a serial number in the 3,530,000 range and was manufactured in Germany in 1990. It features a 5-group, 7-element optical design and has a minimum focusing distance of 1 meter. Filters are used by inserting Series 7 filters into the 12504 hood.
Produced without any major changes from 1961 to 1995, the Summilux 35mm 2nd version is one of Leica’s longest-running lens designs and continues to enjoy strong popularity. Its rendering characteristics have been widely discussed, but one of its most captivating aspects is the dramatic difference in image quality between wide-open and stopped-down shots. The lens offers a wide range of expressive possibilities, making it highly versatile. With its compact and lightweight design, bright f/1.4 aperture, distinctive character, and exceptional aesthetics, it remains an outstanding and remarkably refined lens.
This lens shows no signs of use and is in exceptionally clean condition, virtually like new. The black paint on the barrel remains deep and lustrous. It underwent a full overhaul, including focus adjustment, in February 2025. The aperture and helicoid operate with a smoothness that meets expectations, and the rangefinder coupling is precise.
Under strong LED light, there is an extremely faint coating imperfection visible only upon close inspection, but it has no impact on image quality. There are no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is crystal clear, allowing the lens to deliver its intended rendering beautifully.
Included accessories are a near-mint 12504 hood, a 13044 Series 7 UVa II filter, and a genuine Leica rear cap.
