The Triplet Elmar 90mm f4, a rare Leica L-mount lens. Leitz's product code is 11730U, with a serial number in the 1.92 million range, manufactured in 1962. It features a 3-group, 3-element design and takes E39 filters. This particular unit was officially imported by Schmidt.
While its maximum aperture of f4 is relatively modest, the lens itself is remarkably lightweight, weighing only 196g (measured), making it an exceptionally portable telephoto lens. Well known for its high resolving power and sharp rendering, it delivers excellent clarity and natural color reproduction. The helicoid positioning is also very user-friendly, ensuring a great handling experience. Compatible lens hoods are IUFOO or 12575.
The final Barnack Leica, the IIIg, ceased production in 1960. Introduced thereafter, most of these 3-element Elmars were produced in M-mount. Only 543 units were made in Leica screw mount, making this an exceptionally rare piece.
A stunning, like-new condition as if it traveled through time from 1962. Fully overhauled (OH) in December 2024, the aperture and helicoid operate with a beautifully smooth and refined feel. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly calibrated.
The glass is crystal clear, with no haze or cleaning marks—offering impeccable clarity and brilliance.
Comes with the original front cap, plastic case, and a certificate from Schmidt. An excellent choice for collectors.
