※About rarity

A twin-lens reflex camera made by Franke & Heidecke in Germany. This is the Rolleiflex 2.8B, equipped with a large-aperture, high-speed f/2.8 lens.

It was introduced in 1952 following the poor reception of its predecessor, the 2.8A. Mainly produced for export, it appears to have been targeted primarily at the U.S. market. Production was short-lived and ended in 1953. Based on the serial number, this unit is believed to be an early production model.

The attached lens is a Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar 80mm f/2.8. Known as the only Rolleiflex model to feature the Biometar lens, it's highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The shutter is a Synchro-Compur with a maximum speed of 1/500 sec. Bayonet III mount. The focusing screen features a grid pattern.

Most Rolleiflex 2.8B models with the Biometar lens show heavy signs of use, and this one is no exception—it bears the marks of its active years. There is some paint loss on the edges of the nameplate, and minor wear and plating deterioration can be seen throughout, but there are no dents or major impacts.

The camera was overhauled (CLA’d) in March 2025. The winding mechanism, shutter speed dial, aperture dial, and other controls operate smoothly, and overall functionality is excellent.

The taking lens shows a few very light cleaning marks. There are also faint traces of fungus on both the front and rear elements, but they are unlikely to affect image quality. No haze or other issues are present.

A highly practical Rolleiflex, and even more desirable with the Biometar lens.
