Summaron 35mm f3.5 Early Version. Leica Screw Mount. Serial number in the 840,000 range. Manufactured in 1951. Product code: SOONC. Double Gauss design with 4 groups and 6 elements. Feet scale. Compatible filters are A36 slip-on.
Introduced in 1946 as the successor to the Elmar 35mm f3.5. Compared to the Elmar, it is slightly taller and heavier, but still very compact, offering excellent mobility. The classic design typical of vintage lenses is part of its charm.
It boasts high resolution in the center, and when shot near full aperture, the natural vignetting creates a dramatic atmosphere. This Leica standard wide-angle lens offers exceptional image quality while being relatively affordable due to its large production numbers.
A lens that delivers excellent performance.
Compatible with the FOOKH lens hood.
The lens barrel shows some light wear at the base from use, but its condition is remarkably clean, especially for an item manufactured over 70 years ago.
Fully overhauled in 2020, and for this sale, another overhaul was carried out to ensure optimal performance. The aperture ring and helicoid operate smoothly, rangefinder coupling is precise, and focus accuracy is excellent.
The rear element shows slight coating wear, but this will not affect image quality. No cleaning marks are visible.
Test results were also excellent, showcasing the characteristic open-aperture rendering of a double-Gauss lens, complete with atmospheric vignetting at the edges.
