Summilux 50mm f1.4, 2nd generation, original black paint. Serial number in the 2.22 million range, manufactured in 1966. This particular lens features yellow lettering and a yellow scale. The amber and purple coatings are stunning, and it is in fully original condition.
While the lens retains the barrel design of the early Summilux 50mm f1.4 models, the black paint gives it a sleek, refined look.
Notably, right after this production lot, the base of the barrel design shifted from a grid pattern to a simpler vertical groove, resulting in a more modern aesthetic. The grid design, which carried over from the 1st generation, was labor-intensive and costly to produce, giving this lens a more classic and substantial feel.
A rare gem that pairs beautifully with black paint Leica M models such as the M3, M2, and M4.
The appearance remains excellent, with only minimal paint wear on the filter ring, aperture ring, and helicoid ring. There are no visible dents or marks, and the mount is in equally pristine condition. The depth of field scale at the base of the barrel shows some light bubbling in the black paint, adding to its attractive patina.
It was fully overhauled in 2023, and all operations, including the aperture and helicoid, remain incredibly smooth. The rangefinder coupling is perfect.
The lens glass is exceptionally clear, with no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, and the original coatings are intact on all surfaces. It also performed excellently in practical shooting tests. Comes with a period-correct black UVa filter and original front and rear caps.
