※About rarity

Rolleiflex 3.5 MX-EVS Type 2, also known as the 3.5D. This model was produced from 1954 to 1956. The serial number is in the 1.71 million range. Although it does not feature a built-in exposure meter, it is fully equipped with all essential functions. Compared to the later 3.5E and subsequent series, its lighter weight is another appealing point, making it something of a hidden favorite among Rolleiflex enthusiasts.
It combines a robust yet lightweight body with the proven Tessar f3.5 lens. As a natural evolution from the Rolleiflex Automat, it represents one of Rolleiflex’s completed forms, distinguished by its excellent handling and ease of use. With this Type 2, the light value coupling can be disengaged more easily, allowing independent operation of the aperture and shutter speed dials. On the earlier Type 1, disengaging the light value coupling requires continuously pressing the button located on the front of the shutter speed dial.
Although the production period was limited to just two years, it is said that around 65,000 units were manufactured, reflecting its popularity in line with its real-world performance. Even today, it can be regarded as a model appreciated by experienced and discerning users.

There is very slight paint loss on both sides of the ROLLEIFLEX name plate, but the black paint on each part, including the focusing hood, remains in good condition. Overall, this is a well-preserved example for a Rolleiflex, which is often heavily used. Signs of use on the aluminum edging of the back door and around the tripod socket are also minimal. It is a camera you can enjoy both using and admiring with pleasure.
Overhauled in December 2025. Rolleiflex cameras are known to be time-consuming and costly to service, but for this sale, careful and thorough maintenance was carried out to ensure everything is in optimal condition. The film advance lever, shutter speed dial, aperture dial, and focusing knob all operate very smoothly.
On the edge of the taking lens glass, there is an extremely faint haze that can only be noticed when viewed under strong LED light, and it should have virtually no effect on actual photography. The central area is clear and crisp.
The finder glass has been replaced from the original dark glass to a more recent plastic type. Although there are some scratches, visibility is good and achieving precise focus is easy. This is a very welcome modification.
