This rare Rolleicord Vb Gray Set, produced in 1962 with a serial number of 2.61 million, was a special edition made for the Philips company, with only 1,000 units produced in both 1962 and 1968. The distinct gray color of this Vb model is much less common compared to the gray Rollei Flex T, making it a standout collector's item.
The set includes specialized accessories such as a housing for oscilloscope photography with Polaroid film, the Rolleicopi (a charming device for copying), close-up lenses (including the rare RI Rolleiner 4!), a dedicated hood, a complex film back, and a unique film counter for 16 and 24 exposures. The camera and all its parts can be neatly stored in a custom-made Philips PM9300 briefcase.
The taking lens is a Schneider Xenar 75mm f3.5, with a synchronized Compur shutter. The light-value system links the shutter speed and aperture, but they can be manually adjusted by pressing the shutter speed knob while operating the aperture and shutter speed controls. This set is both a fascinating piece of photographic history and a unique collector's item.
The only notable imperfection is a minor dent on the back door near the winding knob, but aside from that, the camera shows almost no signs of use and retains much of its original, pristine condition. The beautiful gray leather covering remains in excellent shape, further enhancing the camera's aesthetic.
In November 2024, the camera underwent a full overhaul for the first time in over 20 years, ensuring smooth operation across all functions. The viewfinder offers a very clear image, and the lens is in excellent condition. Although there are minor coating imperfections on the middle section of the lens, visible only when held up to strong LED light, there is no noticeable impact on image quality in practical use. The center of the lens is sharp and clear.
This rare and well-maintained Rolleicord Vb Gray is an excellent addition to any collection, with all original accessories included and ready for continued enjoyment.
