Leica DII. Also known internationally as Model D or Leica II.
Serial number 808xx, a five-digit number indicating 1932 production, the first year of the DII. Leica product code: LYCAN.
Features a beautiful black paint & nickel-plated finish. Large tripod thread. Like the Model A, it has a large shutter speed dial, characteristic of early DII models, giving it a classic and distinguished appearance.
The DII was Leica’s first model with a built-in rangefinder, making it a groundbreaking camera in Leitz’s history. Compared to its successor, the DIII, it lacks strap lugs, a slow-speed shutter dial, and diopter adjustment. However, the absence of a slow-speed dial provides a more secure grip, and its streamlined, minimalist design enhances its appeal.
Additionally, the DII played a crucial role in Leica's evolution, laying the foundation for the refined Barnack Leica models that followed.
There are areas of brassing and scuffing on the corners and bottom plate, showing signs of long-term use. However, there are no dents or major impacts, giving it a well-maintained, carefully used character.
There is a small repair mark on the rear gutta-percha, but it is hardly noticeable. The original leather remains intact from the time of production.
Fully overhauled in March 2025, with all functions operating smoothly. The shutter sound is crisp and satisfying, and the viewfinder is bright and clear.
Freshly serviced and ready to be put to use—a classic camera meant to be enjoyed for years to come.
