※About rarity

Leica IIIf Red Dial, serial number in the 710,000 range, made in 1954. Leitz product code LOOHN.

The Leica IIIf was introduced in 1950 as the successor to the Leica IIIc. Early examples had no self-timer and featured black synchronization numbers, known as the Black Dial version. These were later changed to red numbers, creating the Red Dial version. This example is the final version of the IIIf, produced after the self-timer was added in 1954.

The highly refined Leica IIIf was produced from 1950 to 1957 and had the highest production volume of any Barnack Leica. Thanks to its large production numbers, prices remain relatively reasonable, and it is also known as a dependable model with relatively few problems. A good choice for anyone looking to start using a Leica.

There are some linear scratches around the serial number on the top cover, near the accessory shoe, and on the bottom plate. There is also a very minor dent on the top cover near the rewind knob.

A full overhaul was completed in July 2026, including replacement of the shutter curtains. All functions now operate smoothly. Both the viewfinder and rangefinder are clear.

Paired with a Red Scale Elmar or Summitar from the same period, this would make a great introduction to Barnack Leica cameras. Despite its reasonable price, it has been properly overhauled and also comes with our six-month warranty, making it an ideal camera for regular use.
