The Leica IIIg is the final and most refined model of the Barnack Leica series. Leitz's product code for this camera is GOOEF. It features a large tripod thread, with a small-thread adapter included. This particular unit has a serial number in the 870,000 range and was manufactured in 1957. It was produced during the golden age of postwar Leica, alongside the Leica MP and the military olive-green M3.
Designed and manufactured with no expense spared, the IIIg exudes exceptional quality, making it a pleasure to admire. It incorporates M3-era technology, including a parallax-compensating viewfinder with built-in bright frames for 50mm and 90mm lenses. The clarity of the viewfinder is outstanding, making the IIIg the easiest-to-use model in the entire Barnack Leica lineup.
The top cover and bottom plate each have a few faint hairline scratches, but aside from that, there are no visible signs of use, making this a remarkably well-preserved unit. The original vulcanite covering remains in excellent condition, offering a smooth and comfortable grip.
Overhauled in January 2025, the film advance, shutter, and self-timer all operate smoothly and flawlessly. The viewfinder is bright and clear, with strong contrast in the rangefinder patch for precise focusing.
A leather case for the IIIg is included, showing some signs of use but still functional.
