While there is also a civilian version, This is a military version of the KE-7A, officially supplied to the U.S. military.

Commissioned by the U.S. military and manufactured by Canada Leitz (Midland), the KE-7A is based on the Leica M4 Black Chrome. However, it features some unique components and additional sealing throughout its body, distinguishing it from the standard M4.

The included Elcan 50mm f/2 lens resembles a six-element Summicron in appearance but has a unique Ernostar-type 4-group, 4-element optical design. When shot wide open, it produces a soft, gentle rendering with a slight touch of flare, while the resolution drops towards the edges, creating a dramatic effect. Despite being a military model, it delivers a remarkably gentle and beautiful image quality.

All parts are original, and the accompanying accessories are complete. A must-have for collectors.

The top cover has minor scuff marks, and the bottom plate shows some linear scratches. However, there are no dents or dings. The lens exhibits minimal signs of use and remains in excellent cosmetic condition.

The gutta-percha covering and the crinkled paint finish near the back door still retain sharp edges, providing a smooth and comfortable grip.

Overhauled in 2025, the film advance, shutter, and all mechanical operations are smooth and fully functional. The Elcan lens is free from cleaning marks or haze, featuring crystal-clear glass with exceptional clarity. Test shots yielded superb results, and we encourage you to check out the sample images.

Includes the KE-7A dedicated hood, hood cap, and leather case, as well as a copy of the original KE-7A manual. Packed with illustrations, the manual details the KE-7A’s operating temperature range of -20°C to 50°C and a storage range of -72°C to 70°C, making it an interesting read in itself.
