Leica M2S, CAMERA STILL PICTURE KS15-4. A model produced for the U.S. Army. This M2S, KS-15(4) set includes the camera body, a Summicron 50mm (with close-up capability), Summicron 35mm f2, Elmarit 135mm f2.8 with goggles, an MR-4 meter, and a CEYOO flashgun, all neatly packed into a specialized set case for delivery to the U.S. military. We have handled these set cases several times before in our store. The total number of sets produced is estimated to be around 500 units.
This particular unit has a serial number in the 1,160,000 range and was manufactured in 1966. The KS15-4 features the M2 body with a self-timer and integrates the Rapid Loading system, which would later be adopted in the M4 and M2-R models.
This camera falls within the first batch of M2-S units, with serial numbers ranging from 1163150 to 1163770. Subsequent batches include serial numbers from 1164046 to 1164300.
The top cover and bottom plate show some light scuff marks, and there is slight wear around the strap lugs from the strap. However, there are no noticeable dents or deep scratches, and overall, the appearance is quite clean. The gutta-percha is all original, with no chips or damage.
It was fully overhauled in December 2024, and all parts are functioning smoothly, with a pleasant, fluid operation.
Included is a rare New York Leitz leather case, likely original, designed to fit the M2S with a DR Summicron attached. The color and texture of the leather differ from typical German-made cases, resembling the quality found in KE-7A cases.
A rare item indeed.
