Leica M4 Black Chrome 50th Anniversary Edition. This unit has a serial number in the 1,410,000 range and was made in Wetzlar. The serial number matches the one on the original box.
Released in 1975 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Leica Model A (introduced in 1925), this special edition has a product code of 10400. Alongside this model, 50th Anniversary editions were also released for the M5, CL, and SL2. By the way, 2025 marks Leica’s 100th anniversary—an even bigger milestone just around the corner!
The front of the body features the LEICA logo and the “50 JAHRE” emblem, while the underside of the top cover is engraved with the unique limited-edition number, 038-A. Equipped with bright-line framelines for 35/50/90/135mm lenses and Leica’s rapid-loading system, the M4 is celebrated as one of the most practical and iconic Leica cameras. This limited-edition version honors the legacy of the legendary M4, which set the stage for Leica’s modern lineup.
There is a single, tiny mark near the corner of the film counter window on the top cover—unfortunate, but minor. Aside from that, the camera is in outstanding condition, practically like new. This is a piece that any collector would be proud to own.
Fully overhauled in December 2024, all mechanisms are operating smoothly, and the viewfinder is crystal clear.
Included accessories: the original body cap, English instruction manual, a letter sent to dealers introducing the commemorative edition, a period-correct catalog, and the matching original box. Truly a collectible masterpiece.
