※About rarity

Leitz’s product code is ELMAR. Serial number in the 1,340,000 range, manufactured in 1956, this is the Red Elmar. It has a 3-group, 4-element design, and uses A36 filters.

This is the final version of the Elmar 50mm f3.5 with an A36 filter thread, produced for over 30 years since the era of the Leica Model A. The helicoid distance scale is in meters. As expected of the ultimate evolution of the A36 Elmar, it shines with its solid barrel construction and matte chrome plating, reflecting its high level of craftsmanship.

The compatible original hood is the FISON, and our store’s original Elmar hood, the FB-07, which allows for aperture control, can also be attached.

This lens was sourced from Europe in 2022. After undergoing a full overhaul, it has passed through the hands of customers and is now on its third sale. The Red Elmar with a strong homing instinct.

There is a light scuff near the base of the focusing knob, but otherwise, there are almost no signs of use, making this a very clean piece. There are no noticeable scuffs on the collapsible part, and the chrome plating shines beautifully.

It underwent a full overhaul in 2023. Thanks to the careful maintenance, the aperture and helicoid still feel smooth. The anti-reflective matte lacquer inside the barrel has also been carefully reapplied, which should provide even tighter image rendering.

The lens has 2-3 very faint cleaning marks on the front element, along with minor coating wear, but the glass is otherwise clear and bright. Rangefinder coupling has been confirmed, and real-world test shots showed superb image quality. This is a lens that you can enjoy using with confidence.

Comes with the original front cap.
