Leitz's renowned masterpiece, the Summicron 50mm f2 1st version. This item is the highly sought-after later model with a fixed barrel. Leitz's product code is SOSIC, later changed to 11818. Serial number in the 2,140,000 range, manufactured in 1965. The distance scale is marked in both feet and meters.
The lens construction consists of 7 elements in 6 groups, the same as the collapsible and earlier fixed barrel versions, but the knurled design of the helicoid has been updated for a more modern feel. It boasts high contrast and stable image quality even wide open, maintaining its popularity to this day. Its timeless design looks stunning not only on silver bodies but also on black-painted and black-chrome bodies, whether on classic M3s and M2s or modern digital Leicas.
The filter size is E39, and compatible hoods include the IROOA, ITDOO, and 12585. Comes with the original UVa filter.
Overall, the lens shows minimal signs of use and maintains a clean appearance. There are some scuffs on the front of the barrel from attaching and removing the hood, but aside from that, there are no noticeable scratches, dents, or scuffs. It would look great on a clean Leica body.
The aperture and helicoid operate smoothly, and the rangefinder coupling is spot on. The glass condition is clean, matching the appearance of the exterior. For a fixed barrel lens, which often shows signs of wear, this one is in excellent condition. There are 3-4 very faint cleaning marks on the front element and some very slight coating wear and dust around the edges of the front and middle elements, but they have virtually no impact on image quality. (Paid servicing is available upon request.) The coating is fully intact.
Test results have been excellent. Though from a previous sale, you can view sample images in the test gallery.
