The Summicron 50mm f2 1st generation, rigid barrel, later version, is one of Leitz’s most celebrated lenses. Its product code is SOSIC, later 11818. Manufactured in 1966. The focusing scale shows both feet and meters.

7 elements in 6 groups, Gauss type. Prioritizing contrast in its optical design, which also results in improved resolution. It is highly regarded as a legendary lens.

Compared to the earlier version, this later model features a redesigned knurling on the helicoid, giving it a more modern appearance. The lens delivers high contrast and stable performance even at maximum aperture.
It pairs well not only with the M3 and M2, but also with modern digital Leicas. Its timeless design looks great on both silver and black bodies, contributing to its enduring popularity.

The filter size is E39, and compatible lens hoods include IROOA, ITDOO, and 12585.

There are some scuff marks on the front barrel from attaching and removing the hood, and two or three faint scratches on the aperture ring.
However, aside from these, there are no noticeable marks or dents, and the barrel is in very clean condition overall.
The lens underwent a full overhaul in October 2024. It was carefully serviced, and the operation is very smooth, with just the right amount of torque—not too light, not too heavy—making it extremely comfortable to use.
The rangefinder coupling is perfect, and the focus is accurate.

There is a ring of whitish coating deterioration around the edge of the rear surface of the front element, but this is unlikely to affect the image quality.
The coating remains intact and clean on all surfaces.
This is a well-maintained lens barrel in great condition, perfect for use.
