Visoflex Elmar 65mm f3.5 with helicoid 16464 set. This is the later, redesigned version of the Viso-Elmar, finished in black chrome.
The Leitz catalog number is 11162. Lens serial number is in the 2.61 million range. Made in Germany in 1973. Optical construction is 3 groups, 4 elements. It accepts Series 6 filters, used together with a filter ring. Preset aperture. The minimum focusing distance is approximately 15 cm, making it an extremely practical lens. An irresistible choice for close-up photography enthusiasts.
The Viso-Elmar 65mm is well regarded for its rendering in both early and late versions, but the later version offers higher sharpness and contrast. Resolution is high, with excellent color reproduction. The recessed front element is another welcome feature, eliminating the need for a lens hood.
Originally, this lens is used on an M-type Leica body via the Visoflex system with the 16464 helicoid. Today, however, when mounted on a digital mirrorless camera via an adapter, it transforms into a highly versatile and agile all-purpose classic lens.
The black-barrel later version of the Elmar 65mm is relatively rare.

There are three tiny spots of paint loss on the knurled surface of the aperture ring, but aside from this, the lens shows very little sign of use and remains in very clean cosmetic condition.
Fully overhauled in 2025. The aperture clicks are still crisp and pleasant, and operation is extremely smooth. It is completely free from the loose, rattly, or hollow feel often found in many Visoflex Elmars. The helicoid extends and retracts with a silky, effortless smoothness.
When inspected under a strong LED light, two to three very faint cleaning marks can be seen on the rear element. There is also some minor wear to the coating, but this has virtually no effect on image quality. Overall, the glass is clear and bright with excellent transparency.
