This is a Leica M3 Black Paint with a serial number in the 990,000 range, shipped in March 1960. It belongs to the second production batch of M3 Black Paint models, following the 959 series. This version comes after the "fat ear" paint models, which had mixed black counters, making it the next evolution.
The bottom plate lock dial remains all-black, continuing from the previous lot, adding a sense of rarity and appreciation. Among M3 Black Paint models, this is a relatively scarce version.
The camera shows signs of extensive but careful use, with a commanding presence and a well-earned patina that adds to its character.
There is a minor dent near the shoe on the top cover, along with some paint loss on various parts of the body. However, the camera exudes the impression of having been carefully handled over the years. The wear and bubbling of the black paint are just right, making it an irresistible piece for those who appreciate the beauty of well-worn black paint.
It has undergone a full overhaul, and the winding mechanism and shutter operate with impressive smoothness. The viewfinder is clear with no separation, and the rangefinder patch has strong contrast, making focusing precise. The vulcanite covering is entirely original, preserving the authentic state of this M3 Black Paint model.
