Leica Reflex version of the Summicron-R 35mm f2 early version, commonly known as the the 9-element Summicron. Serial number in the 2.46 million range, manufactured in 1970 by Leitz Canada. It has a 7-element, 9-group construction.
The lens is adapted for use with the Leica R series due to its 3-cam configuration. The coating features amber and purple hues.
Contrary to the trend toward smaller and lighter lenses, this lens is substantial and heavy but delivers stunning image quality. It also offers a close focusing distance of up to 30cm, which is a great advantage. This lens has been thoroughly serviced prior to sale, ensuring not only excellent image quality but also superb handling.
The exterior of the lens shows minor paint loss on the edges of the helicoid and aperture rings, but there are no significant scratches or scuffs elsewhere. It is in very good condition for a Leica R lens.
The lens underwent a full overhaul in August 2024. The meticulous servicing has resulted in a smooth and pleasant feel for both the helicoid and aperture ring.
The front element has a few very faint hairline marks visible only under strong LED light, and there is slight coating deterioration on the middle element, but this is unlikely to affect actual image quality. Overall, this is a very clean example of the 9-element version.
Included are the 12509 hood, which can accommodate a Series 7 filter, and both front and rear caps.
