11114. Serial number in the 2.62 million range, manufactured in 1973. This is the black chrome version of the second-generation Summilux 50mm f1.4. It features a 5-element, 7-group construction. As a newly designed second-generation model, it provides sharper rendering at full aperture. While retaining the classic Summilux character, it offers more stable rendering, and its popularity has surged in recent years.
Weighing 290g, it is slightly lighter than the 325g of the earlier white barrel version. The black chrome finish pairs well with modern digital M-Leicas as well as digital mirrorless cameras. With its f1.4 aperture, it’s a versatile standard lens that excels in a variety of shooting situations.
The appearance shows some minor black paint loss on the filter rim and the edges of the lens barrel.
In 2021, a full overhaul was performed, including focus adjustment, and the lens still offers an exceptional, smooth operational feel.
When examined under strong LED light, there are a few very faint cleaning marks on the middle element, but these should have no impact on image quality. The results from practical testing were very good.
The lens provides rich bokeh at full aperture, delicate rendering with fine lines, and attractive vignetting typical of old lenses, delivering beautiful images.
In a clean condition that allows for worry-free use!
