Rolleiflex 3.5E, early model. In Germany, this model is referred to as the 3.5C. The serial number is in the 1.74 million range, indicating it was manufactured between 1956 and 1959. The lens is a Planar 75mm f3.5, a highly regarded lens that has enjoyed long-lasting support.
The focus knob is marked in meters. The exposure meter uses a needle-following system where you read the light value (LV) and then match that value on the light value dial of the shutter speed adjustment.
The focusing hood is a fixed type that cannot be detached, but the focusing screen has been replaced with a split-image type, likely made in the USA. This screen offers a bright view, and the focus peak is easily discernible not only in the split-image section but across the entire screen, greatly enhancing usability. Perfect for practical use!
There are small scratches near the bottom of the back door and a minor dent next to the lens board on the winding crank side, but otherwise, the camera shows little signs of use. For a Rolleiflex of this era, it’s in excellent condition. The black paint retains a rich, smooth finish, and the chrome and aluminum parts shine with a dignified luster. The camera exudes that distinctive quality of a well-made Rolleiflex from this period.
Overhauled in August 2024. The shutter, film advance, automat mechanism, exposure meter, focusing screen, and all other functions have been thoroughly inspected and serviced as needed. The front element of the lens shows two or three very shallow cleaning marks, but they have virtually no effect on actual image quality. The glass is otherwise clean and clear, with no separation or haze.
The camera comes with a case, strap, lens cap, and diffuser.
