※About rarity

Collapsible Summicron 50mm f2. Leica Screw Mount. Leitz product code: SOOIC. Serial number in the 1.35 million range. Manufactured in 1956. Feet scale.

As a quintessential fast lens from Leitz, the Summicron followed in the footsteps of the Summar and Summitar, emerging as the third-generation high-speed standard lens. Its overwhelming resolving power caused a stir in the photographic industry at the time, playing a significant role in the golden era of Leitz that followed with the introduction of the Leica M3.

Although the production numbers for this collapsible Summicron are quite high, many units have suffered from damage to the glass, such as cleaning marks or deterioration of the inner elements. As a result, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find units that can deliver the lens's original image quality. This particular unit is in relatively good condition.

The collapsible section shows minimal wear, giving the lens a rather clean appearance. A Collapsible Summicron that you'll enjoy using.

In September 2024, it underwent a full overhaul, including focus adjustment. The aperture and helicoid operation are smooth and well-damped. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned, allowing for precise focusing even at full aperture.

There is a roughly 5mm diameter spot of coating degradation in the center of the front element, minor coating deterioration on the inner element that is only visible under strong LED light, and very light cleaning marks on the rear element. However, these issues should have no noticeable impact on your photos.

Test shots have shown excellent results, delivering the precise and detailed imaging characteristic of the Summicron.
