※About rarity

Early Leica M3 from 1954, code-named IGEMO, with a serial number in the 740,000 range. It features the early double-stroke advance mechanism.

All parts, including the vulcanite covering, remain original from the time of manufacture. Characteristic features of this early model include the absence of a frame selector, a slightly angular design of the back door, an ASA 200 indicator, the earlier generation shutter, a single dot on the rewind knob, a black-painted area next to the back door instead of crinkle paint, and four flathead screws on the top cover. These elements, also shared with the stepped-top variant, embody the rugged and classical feel of the first-generation M3. For collectors who appreciate early models, this serial range holds irresistible appeal.

There are a few scuff marks on the viewfinder eyepiece, but overall the camera shows very little sign of use and remains in beautiful condition. The paint around the back door, which is prone to wear on early M3 models, is also well preserved. The vulcanite covering retains its deep grain, matching the excellent overall condition of the body.

Fully overhauled in July 2025. All functions are working smoothly, and the viewfinder is exceptionally clear. Film advance, dials, and the self-timer all operate with impressive smoothness. With continued use, the grease in each mechanism will settle even further, making the handling even more refined.

An exceptional condition that is hard to come by.
