The Leica M3 is a legendary camera, and this example is the highly sought after spring-loaded advance model. The Leitz product code is IGEMO. Serial number is in the 950 thousand range, made in 1959.
Among the total production of roughly 220,000 Leica M3 bodies, only about seven thousand five hundred units, less than three and a half percent, were made with the rare spring-loaded single stroke mechanism.
This is an early M3 featuring the desirable thick strap lugs known as fukumimi. Although it is a single stroke model, the spring-loaded system eliminates the characteristic chirping noise when the lever returns after advancing the film. Because of both its appearance and its unique operating feel, this type of M3 is often purchased by collectors and users who specifically seek it out.
This example has just received careful servicing and a thorough refresh. It is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to enjoy shooting with an M3.

All parts on this camera are original, preserving the look and presence it had in its day. There are two small dents on the upper left and right sides of the back door, but aside from that, there is no noticeable wear and the camera is in very clean condition. There are no marks on the strap lugs indicating that a strap was ever attached, and the baseplate is impressively clean. The vulcanite covering is fully original as well.
Overhauled in December 2025. The film advance and all other mechanical operations feel exceptionally smooth, allowing you to enjoy the characteristic sensation of the spring-loaded advance mechanism. The finder is wonderfully clear with no signs of balsam separation, and the contrast of the rangefinder patch is excellent. Overall, it is in very fine condition.
Highly suitable both for practical use and for a collection.
