The original Leitz hood for the earliest version of the Summilux 35mm f1.4, commonly known as the Steel Rim. Its former code was OLLUX. This example is the final version, Version 4, marked 12522. For reference, Versions 1 and 2 are marked OLLUX, while Version 3 is marked 12522H.

The first-generation Summilux 35mm f1.4 was introduced at Photokina in 1960 as the world’s fastest wide-angle lens. It remained in production for more than 30 years until the arrival of the ASPH. version, undergoing various changes to details such as the filter rim along the way.

The OLLUX is an exceptionally well-shaped hood. Beyond its practical effectiveness, it further enhances the beautifully resolved design of the early Summilux 35mm. Its unique snap-on mounting system is also highly distinctive and unmistakably Leitz.

Close inspection with a loupe reveals only a minute spot of paint loss on the corner of the front rim. Otherwise, there are virtually no signs of use, and it remains in like-new condition.

An OLLUX 12522 this clean is rarely seen. An excellent choice for those who own a like-new Steel Rim Summilux, or who plan to acquire one in the future.
