Leica Elmarit 28mm, 2nd generation, 6 elements in 8 groups, serial number 246xxxxx, manufactured in 1970. Filter diameter is E48. No infinity lock.
The adoption of a retrofocus design reduces the protrusion of the rear element, making it compatible with Leica M5 and CL models. Additionally, exposure compensation is not required with bodies featuring built-in exposure meters, enhancing practicality. This lens is exceptional for its three-dimensionality in the center when stopped down to f4-f5.6.
Includes the 12501 hood and a third-party hood cap.
The 12501 hood shows signs of use, including scratches, a glossy appearance, and a small dent on the edge of the hood. The lens has some paint loss on the focus knob, but the body is clean and free of major scratches.
It underwent a full overhaul, including focus adjustment, in August 2024. The operation of all parts is excellent, and the distance coupling is precise.
There is a very slight haze on the middle element that is barely visible even under strong LED light, but it is unlikely to affect real-world shooting.
The test shots were excellent, with the lens providing a pleasingly soft image near the open aperture and a gentle, atmospheric depiction when combined with peripheral fall-off. It performs well both wide open and stopped down, making it a superb wide-angle lens. We hope you visit the sample photo gallery for further details.
