Noctilux 50mm f1.0. E58. Leitz product code is 11821. This item is from an early batch in the 2,750,000 range, manufactured in 1975. Made by Leitz Canada.
One of Leitz's renowned lenses, it delivers excellent performance even in low-light conditions. Compared to its predecessor, the f1.2, its wide-open rendering is notably soft. The shallow depth of field at f1.0 is astonishing, and the joy of shooting with it is unmatched. Although it has become quite expensive due to its recent surge in popularity, its performance justifies its high demand.
Comes with a dedicated 12519 hood and original rear cap. A beautiful piece in terms of both appearance and glass.
There is very minor black paint wear on some of the edges, but overall, it shows very little signs of use and retains a beautiful appearance. It fits perfectly even with brand-new digital Leica M cameras. The included 12519 hood shows slight signs of use, rated at 93% condition, and can be used without hesitation.
Fully overhauled in 2021. Thanks to careful maintenance, the moving parts, including the aperture and helicoid rings, still operate very smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is perfect, allowing precise focusing even at wide apertures.
There are very faint cleaning marks and slight coating wear on the middle element, but these are unlikely to affect shooting. The lens is free from haze and maintains very clean glass, making it a pristine example of an E58 Noctilux.
