Sonnar 50mm f1.5 (Contax) Black

※About rarity

Standard lens for Contax I, Sonnar 50mm. Manufacturing serial number 1407xxx, early model from 1932. Black/nickel finish. 3 groups, 7 elements. Non-coated. Minimum aperture is f8. Internal bayonet mount.

Compact yet bright at f1.5 aperture. Slightly susceptible to backlighting, but ideal for capturing its delicate rendering.

The filter thread lacks threading and is compatible with 42mm slip-on filters or hoods.

Includes an Amedeo adapter with precise rangefinder coupling. The adapter, nickel-plated to match the lens body, resembles an original lens. Original front cap included.

There are some paint chips on the aperture ring and roulette section, considering it has been over 90 years since manufacture, it is in quite good condition, likely well cared for.

Fully overhauled in November 2023. The aperture ring, as well as the adapter's helicoid operation, are smoothly finished. Tested on our demo Leica M10-P and the rangefinder coupling worked perfectly.

The glass is quite clean for an early Sonnar. No haze is visible. There are a few very shallow wipe marks on the front element, and minor edge separation on the middle element, but these should not affect photography. Real-world test results were very good. Sample photos have been posted in our showroom. We hope you enjoy viewing them.
