※About rarity

Summar 50mm f2. Serial number in the 310,000 range, manufactured in 1936. Hexagonal aperture, uncoated. Leitz code is SUMUS. The aperture scale is in continental notation. The helicoid distance markings are in feet.

At maximum aperture, it delivers a soft and atmospheric image. When stopped down, it maintains some softness while becoming sharper. It is somewhat prone to flare, so using a larger hood such as the original SOOMP hood can produce crisper images.

This particular Summar has glass in good condition for its type, offering rich bokeh and vignetting characteristic of the double Gauss design. Enjoy the classic rendering typical of vintage lenses.

It comes with the original front cap.

There are minor signs of use, but the plating and scratches are minimal, giving it a good overall appearance. Considering its nearly 90-year age, it is in exceptionally good condition.

It underwent a full service in 2022 and further maintenance in February 2024. All parts operate smoothly, and the rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned.

The front element has some minor cleaning marks and slight yellowing, but for a Summar, which often has heavily scratched glass, this one is in quite good condition. There is no haze, and the glass is clear and clean.

The results from practical testing were excellent. Our staff, who tested it with the M10-P and M11 at the store, were impressed. For a Summar, it is very sharp and has good color rendering. True to the Summar character, it is sharp in the center while the edges are quite soft.

Though few in number, please refer to the test shots for more information.
