Leitz's renowned masterpiece, the Summicron 50mm f2 1st version, with a late rigid mount. Leitz's product code is SOSIC, later 11818. Serial number in the 2,140,000 range, manufactured in 1965. The distance scale includes both feet and meters. The lens configuration is the same as the earlier version with 7 elements in 6 groups, but the helicoid knurling design has been updated for a more modern look.
With its high contrast and stable performance even at maximum aperture, it remains highly popular today. Its timeless and excellent design looks great not only on the white-bodied M3 and M2 of the time but also on digital Leica cameras, including black bodies.
The filter size is E39. Compatible hoods are IROOA, ITDOO, and 12585. Comes with an original UVa filter.
The overall appearance is clean with minimal signs of use. There are no noticeable scratches, dings, or scuffs. It would look great on a pristine Leica body.
All parts have been inspected. The aperture and helicoid operations are smooth, and the rangefinder coupling is spot on.
The glass condition matches the exterior's cleanliness. There are 3-4 very fine cleaning marks on the front element, and some slight coating wear and dust on the periphery of the front and middle elements, but these do not affect the image quality (servicing is available for an additional fee). The coating is fully intact.
Test results are excellent. Please see our test shots in the gallery.
