Elmar 35mm f3.5 with coating, product code EKURZ. Manufactured in 1948 with 650,000 units produced. Leica screw mount. Convenient meter markings.
Among Leitz products, it is the second thinnest lens after the Hektor 28mm. Ideal for both the Barnack and M-type Leica, its compact size enhances maneuverability. Easily fits into a camera bag alongside another lens.
Wide open, it exhibits a characteristic vignetting, delivering a classic yet profound and enduring lens that never grows tiresome with extended use. This particular model features coating, ensuring serene rendering even in backlit or brightly lit scenes.
A staple Leica wide-angle lens cherished over the years, recently undergoing a reevaluation. Compatible hoods are FLQOO or FOOKH.
There are slight signs of wear, but overall, it has a very clean and beautiful appearance. Considering its manufacturing era, it can be described as being in excellent condition.
Fully overhauled in June 2024. Both aperture and focusing helicoid are extremely smooth and provide a pleasant feel. Internal anti-reflection lacquer has been carefully reapplied, promising tighter image rendition. The rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focusing is precise.
There are minor coating deterioration and very light wipe marks on the middle element, about 2-3, but they should not affect image quality. Otherwise, the glass is clear and pristine.
Real-world testing yielded excellent results. Combined with the coating, it delivers sharpness and solid contrast in its rendering.
