※About rarity
The product code of this lens is ELMAR, with a serial number in the 1.34 million range, indicating it was manufactured in 1956. It's the red version of the Elmar, featuring a 3-group, 4-element construction. The filter size is A36. This lens represents the final version of the A36 Elmar 50mm f3.5, which was produced for over 30 years since the era of the Leica Model A. The distance scale on the helicoid is marked in meters. As expected from the ultimate evolution of the A36 Elmar, this lens shines with its rigidity and the lustrous chrome plating on the lens barrel, showcasing its high level of craftsmanship. The compatible original hood is the FISON. Additionally, our own original hood for the Elmar, the FB-07, which allows for aperture adjustment, can also be mounted on this lens. There is some rubbing near the base of the distance adjustment knob, but otherwise, the lens shows little sign of use and has a very clean appearance. There are no noticeable scratches on the collapsible part. A full service was performed in February 2023. Thanks to meticulous maintenance, the aperture and helicoid still feel smooth today. The inside of the lens barrel has been carefully repainted with matte lacquer to prevent internal reflections, which should enhance the quality of the images produced. There are two to three very faint cleaning marks on the front element, but the glass is clear and unobstructed. The coating is well-preserved, promising the consistent performance expected from a classic Elmar lens. The rangefinder coupling has also been confirmed to work. We conducted test shots again recently, and the shooting staff was amazed by the excellent image quality. This is a lens you can enjoy using with confidence. It comes with the original front lens cap.
