※About rarity
Leitz product code is XEMOO. It is a Leitz Xenon 5cm f1.5 lens, manufactured in 1937, with a production number in the 370,000 range. This lens represents a large aperture lens typical of pre-war Leitz, designed by Dr. Tronnier. This particular item is an early type with two rollers on the helicoid ring, commonly known as the "two-band." It has a hexagonal aperture and consists of 5 groups and 7 elements. It is non-coated, with a minimum aperture of f/9. Distance is indicated in meters. As a Leica Xenon lens, it is in quite good condition, providing delicate and soft rendering characteristic of Xenon lenses when shot wide open. While somewhat weak against backlight due to being a pre-war non-coated lens, it offers a distinctive rendering in low-light scenes. This Leica Xenon lens evolved into the post-war Summarit and later into the renowned Summilux, continuing to uphold Leica's reputation. There is a faint brass appearance on the edges of the mirror barrel, but there are no scratches or dents, giving the impression that it has been used meticulously over the years. A full service was conducted in 2022, and it still operates excellently. The aperture ring and helicoid movement, which tend to become heavy in Xenon lenses, are smooth. The rangefinder coupling works perfectly. On the front element of the lens, there are faint wiping marks and light scratches visible only when a powerful LED light is applied, and on the rear element, there is very slight rubbing. However, compared to Xenon lenses that are often covered in wiping marks, the glass is quite clean. The test results were also good.
