※About rarity
A telephoto lens for Leica screw mount, the Dallac 8.5cm f2, manufactured by English company Dallmeyer in the late 1940s. It features coupled rangefinder focusing and a double Gauss optical design with 6 elements in 4 groups. The aluminum barrel, made by Cooke & Perkins, exhibits excellent craftsmanship, and the elegant design typical of British products is quite impressive. The lens was marketed for Leica L mount cameras, emphasizing features like "Dallcoat," "lightweight metal barrel," and "high resolution" in the catalogs of that era. While there are various versions of the Dallac 85mm, this lens represents the most common type. It weighs approximately 399g and has a filter thread size of 48.5mm or 49mm. We have handled over 20 Dallac lenses in our store, but this particular unit is in exceptional condition, ranking among the top. It comes with a genuine front cap. Rare item. The aluminum barrel shows minor scratches and small marks, typical for a Dallac lens, but overall, it is in good condition. It underwent a full overhaul in 2021. Thanks to meticulous maintenance, the aperture and helicoid operation remain smooth and precise. The rangefinder coupling works perfectly. There are very shallow wiping marks on the glass, and some coating deterioration is visible on the rear element, common with Dallac lenses, but these are unlikely to affect image quality significantly. The soft rendering near wide open aperture is described perfectly by the word "sweet." It's ideal for atmospheric portraits and still-life photography.
