※About rarity

Summarit 5cm f1.5, late model. The aperture scale markings are now on the aperture ring side, and the external bayonet for filters and hoods has been eliminated, resulting in a slightly modernized and more refined appearance. This type is quite popular.

Leitz's product code is SOOIZ. Serial number 1.42 million, manufactured in 1956. Two years later, the renowned Summilux 50mm f1.4 was introduced. Coated lens. Marked in feet. The filter size is E41, the same as later Steel Rim versions.

The lens features a 5-group, 7-element design, similar to its predecessor Xenon, but with significant performance improvements due to the use of new glass types and coatings.

Wide open, it produces soft images with a swirling bokeh effect that can be mesmerizing. On the other hand, stopping down enhances resolution dramatically, transforming into sharp and richly detailed images.

This particular lens is in excellent condition both in appearance and glass quality. Such a pristine Summarit is rare. It's a lens that allows you to fully enjoy its original rendering capabilities.

It has very minimal signs of use and is in excellent cosmetic condition, a rarity among well-used Summarits.

Fully overhauled in June 2024, the aperture and helicoid operation, which can often become stiff, are now smooth and have a pleasing feel. The rangefinder coupling is also perfectly calibrated.

The glass is pristine, free from visible wipes or haze, and delivers clear and sharp images. There is almost no noticeable coating deterioration, remaining remarkably beautiful with the coating intact on the front surface. Such condition is exceedingly rare, perhaps one in dozens.

Matching its beautiful glass, the practical shooting results were also very impressive.

Includes the original front cap.
