E39 Summaron 3.5cm f/3.5 M mount. 4 groups, 6 elements. Serial number in the 1,270,000 range. Manufactured in 1955. Feet scale. The filter diameter is E39, making it compatible with IROOA and ITDOO hoods. Leitz code is SOONC-M.
The Sun-hand Summaron is known for its rich and dense rendering. The dramatic peripheral falloff gives it a charming old-lens character. The focus plane is sharply defined with high resolution. The E39 type pairs excellently with M-type Leicas.
This particular lens has been modified at the mount's lug to display the 35mm viewfinder frame, and on models from the M2 onward (including current digital M-type Leicas), the 35mm frame will appear.
It has minimal signs of use and is in beautiful condition.
Fully overhauled in May 2024, the aperture and helicoid movements are smooth thanks to careful maintenance. The rangefinder coupling is also working perfectly.
When exposed to strong LED light, there are slight coating marks on the middle element, but they hardly affect photography. There are no cleaning marks, and the glass condition is excellent for a Summaron. The real-world test results were also excellent.
We have published sample images in our gallery. While capturing the subject accurately, it delivers dramatic images with rich peripheral falloff. It's truly a fantastic lens. A genuine UVa filter is included.
