※About rarity
The Unilite 50mm f2, a unique standard lens designed for the Wrayflex (Rayflex) series, an eccentric single-lens reflex camera released by the venerable British optical manufacturer Wray in 1954. It features a 4-group 5-element configuration with a beautiful blue coating. This particular lens has been carefully modified for Leica M mount. The rangefinder coupling works perfectly, adjusting from 0.7m to infinity. Wide open, it delivers fine details in the center with a gentle, soft rendering reminiscent of a delicate veil. With its captivating softness, it's an excellent choice for portraits and still life photography, leveraging the beauty of its subtle blur. The black paint on the front of the lens shows some minor chipping, but overall it is clean with no significant scratches or dents. While the lens has undergone careful modifications under the previous owners, it underwent another round of cleaning in March 2024 prior to this resale. The lens exhibits considerable coating deterioration on the middle element, as well as some light wiping marks on the front and rear elements. Additionally, there is some yellowing on various glass surfaces. Similar to past Unilite 50mm f2 lenses, the glass condition is not perfect, but its rendering is likely to resonate with enthusiasts of vintage lenses. From wide open, it gives the impression of a deeper depth of field. From close-up to distant scenes, the rangefinder coupling accuracy is also excellent.
