※About rarity

Leica Flex, Summicron-R 35mm Early Version. 9 elements. Serial number in the 2.46 million range, manufactured in 1970.

Made by Leica Canada. It features a 7-group, 9-element design, with the front group showing a faint blue coating. It is a 3-cam version, making it compatible with the Leica R system.

In contrast to modern trends toward smaller, lighter lenses, this lens is substantial and hefty. The design reflects Leica's expertise in wide-angle hoods, but its exceptionally thick barrel gives it a rather unusual appearance compared to telephoto lenses. While it may not be considered handsome, the results are stunning. The image quality it delivers is truly impressive.

The appearance shows some black paint loss on the edges of the barrel, with noticeable signs of use. There are no dents or significant damage.

Overhauled in August 2024. The helicoid operates smoothly. There are a few cleaning marks on the front element and a 2 cm hairline scratch on the rear element. Additionally, there are faint signs of haze on the edges of the front and middle elements, common for this lens model, but the center of the glass remains clear. The results of practical tests were very favorable.

Added sample images from the previous sale to the trial gallery. Please take a look at the test shots. The test staff was also impressed by the image quality! With a close focusing distance of approximately 30 cm, the lens offers exceptional compositional freedom.
