This is a late-model Leica A from the 1930s, with a serial number in the 30,000 range, which was later upgraded to a DII by Leitz. If you want to match the era of the lens, an unnumbered New Elmar would be perfect.
The genuine upgrade uses dedicated upgrade parts supplied by Leitz, and some parts differ from the standard Leica DII. The meticulous attention to detail reflects the essence of Leitz. Incidentally, these genuine Leitz modifications are referred to as Factory Conversions overseas.
The body is compact and sleek without strap lugs. It features an upgrade from the A model with nickel plating and black paint finish, which exudes a sense of warmth, to a version with a rangefinder, preserving its cherished history. This is a camera that lets you savor the good old days.
There are paint losses on the edges of the top cover and bottom plate, but these are natural wear from regular use and give it a natural look. The condition of the nickel plating is also good, giving the camera an overall good atmosphere. There are no dents or dings, indicating it has been well cared for over the years.
It was overhauled in 2024. All parts are functioning smoothly. The viewfinder visibility is also excellent. The rangefinder is 1:1 magnification, making it easier to focus compared to the Leica M series, which has a lower magnification.
