Angenieux 90mm f2.5 Type Y1 with Leica L-mount, featuring an early lens barrel. While the earliest Type Y1s are known to fade to brown, this item fades to blue. It has beautiful blue coating and is considered one of the last in this design of the Angenieux Y1. It consists of a 4-group, 4-element design. The serial number is 154xxx, manufactured in 1948, with distance markings in feet.
The lens can accommodate the genuine E43 filter used for Summilux, although compatibility with other 43mm filters may vary, so please try different ones.
The Angenieux 90mm f2.5, like the 75mm f3.5 Type Z3, often suffers from irreparable looseness, making it a somewhat daunting lens. However, this particular piece has been meticulously maintained, ensuring that its appearance, glass, rangefinder coupling accuracy, and overall performance are flawless. It is indeed a rare find in such excellent condition!

The lens barrel has slightly faded to a blue tone, but it maintains a clean appearance without any notable scratches or marks. The aperture and helicoid rings are also pristine.
A full service, including focus adjustment, was completed in April 2024. The aperture and helicoid movements are now very smooth. Thanks to thorough maintenance, there is no looseness in the lens barrel, and the rangefinder coupling performs well from the minimum focusing distance to infinity at all aperture settings.
While there are minor coating marks on the lens, there are no significant scratches or cloudiness, resulting in clear and crisp images—typical of the high-quality glass in an Angenieux. You can fully enjoy the sharp and vibrant rendering that is characteristic of the Y1 model.
