Nikkor-S·C 8.5cm f1.5, a large-aperture medium telephoto lens manufactured by Nippon Kogaku in 1951. It features both black paint and chrome-plated finishes, designed for Nikon S-mount with external bayonet. It has a 3-group 7-element configuration with distance markings in feet. The filter size is 60mm screw-in.
It's said that approximately 2000 units of the Nikkor 85mm f1.5 were produced, including versions for Nikon, Leica, and Contax mounts. Being a large-aperture telephoto lens, it's quite hefty due to the abundance of glass. It weighs approximately 550g.
In addition to the rear cap and case, it comes with a metal screw-in type original hood, which can be difficult to find separately (hood cap not included). The hood is of a two-piece design, allowing for the insertion of Series VII filters.
There are minor paint losses on the helicoid and aperture ring rollers, but overall, it gives a clean impression. There are only slight scratches on the chrome plating.
It underwent a full service in May 2024. The aperture and helicoid are tailored to provide smooth operation with just the right amount of torque for precise focusing required by a medium telephoto large-aperture lens like the f1.5.
There are minor coating imperfections on the front element and slight separation along the periphery of the rear element, but these are unlikely to affect photography. There is no haze or noticeable cleaning marks; the glass is clear and clean.
This lens is suitable not only for Nikon S-mount cameras but also for modern mirrorless cameras via adapters. You can enjoy its excellent performance. (We recommend the high-precision Rayqual SC-LM O. adapter, which we also handle at our store).
