Leica IIIf Red Dial. Serial number in the 710,000 range. Manufactured in 1954. Leitz product code: LOOHN.
Introduced in 1950 as the successor to the Leica IIIc, the Leica IIIf initially featured no self-timer and black synchronization numbers on the shutter speed dial, earning it the nickname Black Dial. Later versions featured red synchronization numbers and became known as the Red Dial. This particular example is the final version of the IIIf, featuring the self-timer introduced in 1954.
The highly refined Leica IIIf was produced from 1950 to 1957 and holds the distinction of being the most widely manufactured model among all Barnack Leicas. Thanks to its large production numbers, prices remain relatively affordable, and the model is known for its reliability and relatively few mechanical issues. An excellent choice for anyone looking to begin their journey into the world of Leica.
This Leica IIIf shows very little sign of use and is in exceptionally beautiful condition. There is one small nick on the front of the top cover near the self-timer lever. Without this single blemish, it would be in near-mint condition. What a shame! Even the bottom plate shows no noticeable wear, and the vulcanite covering retains its crisp texture, making this a particularly pleasant camera to hold.
A full overhaul was completed in October 2026. All controls now operate beautifully, with an exceptionally smooth and precise feel. The viewfinder is also clear and bright. Given the relatively affordable price of the IIIf, it is surprisingly difficult to find a properly serviced example. This particular camera, however, has received a thorough overhaul, with no expense spared to bring it into excellent working condition.
A beautiful Leica IIIf body, fully serviced and ready to shoot.
