Manufacturing number 18xxx. A type Leica with the old Elmar for close-up, manufactured in 1929.
After Oscar Barnack produced three Ur-Leicas in 1913, followed by 31 prototypes of the Leica 0 (Null) type, finally, in 1925, it was introduced to the market. This historic Leica, which received praise from around the world, marks the inaugural model of Leica. The product code from Leitz proudly stands as LEICA.
This item is the Leica A type set itself, as featured in the book 'Leica in Colour' by renowned Leica collector Paul-Henry Van Hasbroek. It is showcased in both the Japanese and English versions, in 22 pages.
The A type body and rangefinder both have distance markings in feet, with a standard shutter release. The minimum shooting distance for the close-up Elmar is 1.5 feet.
While this A type Leica with the old Elmar is one of the later models, it comes with all accessories and is in good condition, making it a centerpiece for any collection.
There are signs of wear and small scratches on the paint, typical for an item of its age, but no prominent dents or significant damage. Considering it's nearing its 100th year, it's in quite good condition for a practical industrial product.
In May 2024, both the body and FODIS rangefinder underwent overhaul. All functions are smooth, and the finder's visibility is clear.
Comes with lens caps, two magazines, FODIS rangefinder, a set leather case, and the original box.
Maintaining its original condition and boasting a provenance from a notable collector, the serial number of the body matches that of the box, making it a truly collectible item. A must-have for any collection.
