Leica DII. Leitz product code: LYCAN. Black and nickel finish. This is the first Leica to feature a built-in rangefinder, marking an epoch-making model. Known overseas as the Leica II or Model D.
The serial number of this unit is 94xxx, indicating it was manufactured in 1932, the first year of the Leica DII’s release.
Compared to the subsequent Model DIII, this model lacks a slow shutter, suspension ring, and viewfinder correction, making it a more streamlined version with fewer features. However, its clean design and comfortable size have made it popular, with many appreciating its simplicity.
Pairing it with a nickel lens makes it not only a pleasure to use but also a joy to behold. It’s a Leica you can enjoy for a long time.
There is natural wear on the black paint in the areas that are frequently touched, but there are no major scratches or dents. The piano black finish and nickel plating are in excellent condition, making this Leica DII a particularly clean body.
Overhauled in August 2024. The careful servicing has resulted in a smooth and refined operation of the film advance and shutter. The finder has had the half-mirror replaced, providing a clear view and a crisp rangefinder image, ensuring a pleasant shooting experience.
This camera has clearly been well cared for. It has been refreshed with the recent overhaul and is in excellent working condition.
