※About rarity

Leica MD. Leitz product code 10101. Serial number in the 1.13 million range, manufactured in 1966. A model based on the Leica M2 without a viewfinder. It can also be described as an M1 with the viewfinder removed. It was produced for use with the Visoflex or for industrial purposes. Production numbers were low, limited to around 3,200 units.

This example comes with the special MD bottom plate, which allows data to be recorded onto the film. If the protrusion of the plate feels inconvenient, a standard M2 or M3 bottom plate can also be fitted. The body weight is about 500g, making it lighter than contemporary M3 or M2 cameras due to the absence of the rangefinder.

As derivatives, a small number of grey MDs and Visoflex versions were produced, known today as extremely rare and highly valuable items.

Pair it with a Summicron or Summaron 35mm, an Elmarit 28mm, or a Super-Angulon 21mm and a separate viewfinder for street shooting. A Hologon 15mm f8 would also be a stylish match. Combined with the Visoflex, it can be used as an SLR. The Leicavit MP can also be attached.

Faint scuff marks can be seen around the shutter dial and on the top cover, but overall there is little sign of use and it remains in very beautiful condition. No dings or dents are present.
The vulcanite is completely original, with its grain still standing and offering a comfortable grip.
Overhauled in September 2025. Film advance and shutter feel excellent, and all functions operate smoothly. Suitable both for collection and practical use.
