Genuine hood for the Leica-style camera Janua, made by San Giorgio in Italy. 36mm slip-on. Manufactured around 1949.
Although the Janua has a dedicated bayonet mount and cannot be strictly called a Leica copy, it is a very unique and charming camera in both style and mechanism. In addition to the Essegi 50mm f3.5, lenses such as the Kritios 50mm f2 and f2.8 were developed for the Janua, but they are almost mythical.
This lens hood appears to have been manufactured for the f2 or f2.8 lenses, but it is the most commonly seen type for the Janua. Since it has an A36 diameter, it can also be attached to Elmar and Summaron 35mm lenses.
Its simple design does not disrupt the style of the lens, which is part of its charm. Among our customers, it is also popular as a standard hood for the Angenieux 50mm f1.8 S1.
The brass is beginning to show faintly at the tip, giving it a nice character. There are no distortions or other issues.
