Elmar 5cm f3.5 in Nickel without a serial number. Distance scale in meters, full rotation type. Helicoid number 3. Commonly known as the Short Elmar. There are various lengths of the Short Elmar, but this one has an especially short barrel. Each time, we find ourselves checking if the collapsible barrel is fully extended (lol).
Although it is not the so-called Old Elmar, this New Elmar, which was mounted on a Leica Model A produced around 1930, was officially modified by Leitz at that time to a Leica screw mount with rangefinder coupling.
It is compatible not only with black/nickel Barnack Leicas but also ideal for use with mirrorless cameras via an adapter since it lacks the infinity lock pin. Approaching 95 years old, this Leica lens is still showing good parformances.
Comes with original front and rear caps.
There are signs of use consistent with its age, such as minor scuffs and some peeling of the nickel plating, but there are no noticeable scratches, dents, or distortions on the nameplate.
Fully overhauled in May 2024. The aperture and helicoid have been smoothly serviced. Focus is accurate and the rangefinder coupling is perfect.
The front element has quite a few cleaning marks. These might slightly affect images when shooting against the light. The anti-reflective lacquer inside the barrel has been carefully reapplied, promising a more defined rendering.
