Auto-Nikkor-S 50mm f2, Early Type with Tick Mark
This is an early version of the Auto-Nikkor-S 50mm f2, released in 1959 as the standard lens for the Nikon F. Identifiable by the red R marking for infrared, PAT.PEND engraving, the glossy aluminum parts, and the tick mark, this lens is believed to be from around 1959. It has a 5-element, 7-group design, with 9 diaphragm blades and metric distance markings on the helicoid.
This lens has been carefully preserved by a dedicated collector over the years and is in exceptionally pristine condition, as if it has just been transported from the past. It comes with the original front and rear caps, with the rear cap featuring the Japan Optical KK engraving.
The lens shows almost no signs of use and is in excellent condition. Upon close inspection, there is a tiny bit of paint loss on the edge of the helicoid’s knurled surface, but otherwise, there is very little wear.
It has been overhauled as of August 2024. Both the helicoid and aperture ring function smoothly. The glass is clear with no cleaning marks or fogging.
A rare find, ideal for use with cameras such as the Nikon F serial number 640xxxx range.
